And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Genesis 2:16-17)
The death and life lesson of the whole Bible begins with this passage of scripture in the first book of Genesis. It isn’t the Tree of Knowledge that is the main point of the fall of man, but the fact that he disobeyed God his creator. That is the sole reason why death came into the human race. The act of disobeying God is called SIN in the Bible. I like to define Sin as Satan In Nature. The act of disobeying God separates the creature from God and brings death to the creature. God is a just God of laws and when we break His laws we die. Sinners are not allowed in heaven. Adam and Eve walked in the presence of God and they were crowned in glory, but the moment they sinned, the glory was lost, they died spiritually and began to die physically. Their spiritual nature of death has passed down from Adam to all men through the bloodlines of the fathers. The difference between death and life is the first lesson of the Bible.
The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. (Ezekiel 18:20)
The curse of SIN continues from Adam down through the family line of humanity through the bloodlines of the fathers and brings death into the whole family. Death is in our blood.
Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins.
When the blood is shed then and only then is the creature truly dead.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
Sin brings death into the spirit and soul of the human that eventually causes death. No soul can escape from the death penalty of SIN. Because of the disobedience of one man Adam, every soul born into planet earth in Adam’s family is going to die because it is our spiritual nature to disobey God to live for SELF like our father Adam. This is the second lesson of the Bible. Death has been passed down to all men from Adam through the bloodlines of the Fathers.
Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them. (Genesis 3:21)
God is a just God and His words are the laws of the universe. He cannot let a broken law go unpunished. Yet even though God is a just God, He is also the God of love and mercy. The first thing God did in response to the disobedience of our first parents was to make them and all souls in Adam’s loins His first promise. The Bible calls every soul born of Adam into the family of mankind “the children of disobedience. (Colossians 3:6-8)
I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel. (Genesis 3:15)
Here in this first promise of God in the Bible we see God’s justice and God’s mercy. God is good and His mercy endures forever. They had tried to hide their sin by working together to cover their nakedness that their sin revealed but God demonstrated His love by killing innocent animal souls in their place and then covering them in the bloody skins. By shedding innocent blood God demonstrated His promise that an innocent soul would be born of as the seed of the woman (virgin birth). He would willingly lay down His life as a ransom and as their substitute in death He would redeem all their unborn children, including you and me, from the penalty, the power and presence of SIN. This is the third spiritual lesson of the Bible.
Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them. (Genesis 3:21)
And everything does He teaches something. God never does anything without teaching something. By covering Adam and Eve with the bloody coats of skins God was demonstrating a righteousness covering that He would provide which only comes from the shed blood of an innocent being. He was also teaching that He alone could redeem them from the curse of Satan’s dominion and powers of death and that the one He would send from Heaven would shed His innocent blood to pay the death penalty of their sin. Adam basically sold the whole human family to Satan who became the god of this world, but Jesus came from Heaven and shed His innocent blood to buy us back unto God. That is called redemption. These three lessons needs to be the first three lessons that people learn in the Bible. The whole Bible is built upon the lessons of “sin brings death,” and “the innocent shed blood of God’s promised Messiah Jesus brings redemption from Satan’s powers of death. Through the shedding of innocent blood, and making His first promise to Adam and Eve, God basically made blood covenant with Adam And his human family, which He later expanded with Abraham. God demonstrates through many lessons in the Old Testament how we are redeemed from Satan’s powers of death through the innocent shed blood of God’s own Son as our promised redeemer. Blood is the legal tender of the spirit realm. The life of the flesh is in the blood. When the blood of the creature is shed, he is dead. But when the sinless Son of God from Heaven sheds His innocent blood in obedience unto the Heavenly Father, the creature is redeemed from death. And when the creature comes up with any form of good works religion to earn his victory of death, he will fail because just as the life of the flesh is in the blood, even so eternal life comes only through the precious blood of the Lord Jesus. The fact that Jesus rose from the dead proves that the life of God is in His blood. The Bible teaches us how to receive eternal life and how to abide in the Spirit of Christ to grow in his divine nature as we are constantly cleansed with the blood of Jesus by faith. Learn about the power of the blood all the way through the Old Covenant and you will come to understand the Bible. The blood of Jesus purchases eternal life for us. Without the shedding of Jesus blood, there is no eternal life.
Most assuredly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death. (John 8:51)
Because of the first man Adam, we are all going to die, but because of the Last Adam, Jesus Christ, we who BELIEVE are going to live forever. Redemption only comes through the blood of Jesus! When we trust in the blood of Jesus that was shed on our behalf, God no longer sees us as sinners, but He calls us righteous in His sight with the righteousness of Christ. Only through faith in the precious innocent shed blood of righteous Jesus does God remit our sins and treat us as though we have never sinned. Jesus didn’t come until 4000 years later but throughout the centuries God kept manifesting Himself unto His people with historical demonstrations of His promised redemption that He would provide through the shed blood of Christ upon the cross for us. These lessons about the blood throughout the Old Testament are the lessons of faith that truly changes our spiritual natures and makes us ready for Heaven as we receive the adoption of Sons from the Heavenly father. (Ephesians 1:5, Galatians 4:4-5)
And if ye call on the Heavenly Father, who without respect of person, judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, who by Him do believe in God, that raised Him up from the dead, and gave Him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. (1 Peter 1:17-21) Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. (James 4:14)
The Spirit realm where God lives is real and eternal. God created the natural realm of this physical see and be seen world for the purpose of enlarging and growing His heavenly family. Everything in the spirit realm works by laws. The Laws of God rule in the Spirit realm and the natural realm. The Law of God is perfect. Any broken Law of God requires an exact penalty by a just God to satisfy His divine justice and to bring restoration. The universe God created was perfect. Yet we see that nothing in this world is even close to being perfect. That is because a great catastrophe took place in the Garden of Eden that affected the whole universe and the human race. The scripture says that by one man Adam, sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all who were in Adam have sinned. (Romans 5:12) What is sin? It is Satan’s spiritual nature of the self-program that was generated in Adam’s heart during his rebellion against God and obedience unto the devil. Because we are all the progeny of Adam, we are all born into this world as sinners with the sin virus and we all sin. We love SELF, we live for SELF and we are spiritually blind unto God. In Adam, we have all sinned and have broken the Law of God and we are all under the divine sentence of God’s eternal judgment. It is also our spiritual nature to sin against God as we are trained by the world to live only for self. We must all pay the wages of sin, which is death and we must also pay the penalty of sin which is the wrath of God. Death is in our blood, but the spiritual nature of the life of God Himself is in the blood of Jesus and flows into us by His Spirit through faith in the blood of Jesus that was shed for us..
And almost all things, according to the law, are cleansed with blood: and without shedding of blood there is no remission. (Hebrews 9:22)
OR a perfect man who has fulfilled the Law of God and qualifies to be our redeemer must be willing to pay God’s penalty that we justly earned by breaking the Laws of God. Can you think of any perfect man that always pleased God? Jesus is the only man that ALWAYS pleased God. He was born of virgin called Mary so the spiritual nature of rebellion wasn’t passed down to Him from Adam through the bloodlines of the fathers. Jesus came from Heaven to earth to pay our death penalty, bring us back unto God and give us eternal life, which was the heavenly father’s original plan. That is Jesus did for us. Jesus always obeyed God and at the appointed time upon the cross, Jesus shed His perfect sinless blood on our behalf and in our place to satisfy God’s divine justice towards us. Before you continue reading this blog, I would like you to do a fun thing by asking yourself a question. Here is the question! What is the difference between Redemption and Salvation? Speak your answer out loud, write it down and then at the end of this blog write down what you think is the real answer. Then look at the answer between your two questions and be amazed. Here is a hint! You can’t walk in God’s salvation without receiving God’s redemption. At the end of this blog I will give you my favorite answer to this date of the difference between Redemption and Salvation. The focus of this blog is upon the price Jesus paid to redeem you from Satan’s dominion and powers of death.
WARNING:
Eternity is approaching! If you want to understand the Bible, take time to read the scriptures that are listed. You will be able to see how God has provided redemption for you so you can believe the truth, walk in His blessings of salvation and enter Heaven in the day of death. It is not the comments about the scriptures that are important but the scriptures themselves. There is a Hell to shun and a Heaven to gain! Because of His redemption, we can receive salvation. As we live by faith in His redemption we walk with God and experience salvation.
1. Redemption is the Theme of the Whole Bible.
Even though you may think that all things are fine in your life, your spirit knows that you are separated from God. Your spirit also knows that without God you are unsafe forever. Only a miracle from God can make it possible for you to be reunited with your creator and come to know Him as your loving Heavenly Father so you can walk with Him in life and enter into Heaven at the moment of death. The whole Bible is about our redeemer that God has provided for us and His provision of redemption for us so we can be saved and live forever. As the second man from Heaven, Jesus is our redeemer and He has redeemed us from the power of Satan and has brought us back unto God. Jesus never sinned, yet He died upon the cross as our substitute and He shed His precious innocent innocent blood to pay the wages of sin for us. We were waiting to serve our eternal sentence of death and punishment in Hell, but Jesus came and served our sentence for us. God literally killed His only Son upon the cross and sent Him to hell for us so we could live forever by Him. Now, everyone who believes in Jesus Christ and His blood covenant with us, is accounted innocent and righteous in God’s sight because the sinless blood of Jesus has satisfied the ordinances of God’s divine justice that were against us. God killed His only Son for us that we might live forever by Him. (Isaiah 53:4-5, John 6:57) As a believer in Christ we receive His divine nature, come into God’s spiritual kingdom, and come out from under Satan’s dominion. God wants us to see what happened to Jesus upon the cross on our behalf and how His redemption affects us now as we believe in Him. Redemption is God’s love gift unto us but it came at a great cost unto Jesus. Because Jesus has accomplished redemption for the whole human race, salvation belongs to us, but we must receive God’s gift of love and appropriate His redemption by faith, that it might become our salvation.
Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. (Isaiah 53)
1. God sent Jesus from Heaven to earth for the purpose of destroying Satan’s powers of death over mankind and his dominion in the universe, accomplishing redemption for all mankind. He is our redeemer and He has redeemed us from our destiny of death and hell. He has fulfilled the prophecies of the prophets. He is the true messiah who redeems us through faith in His shed blood and saves us when we believe in Him.
(Job 19:25-27 Psalm 49:15 Luke 1:68, 2:38, 24:21, Romans 3:24, 8:23, 1 Corinthians 1:30, Galatians 3:13, 4:5, Ephesians 1:7, 14, Colossians 2:14, Titus 2:14, Hebrews 9:11-15, 1 Peter 1:18-20, Revelation 5:9)
2. In everything God does He teaches something! God never does anything without teaching something. God uses natural things to reveal spiritual things. He has chosen a variety of terms and historical demonstrations in the Old Testament to give us the full picture of our salvation that has been purchased for us by His gift of redemption.
3. Bible terms include words like pardon, sanctification, ransom, redeem, purchased, bought, reconciliation, forgiven, remission, justified, etc.
2. A Definition of Redemption
Redemption is the process of buying something or someone back from another that has a legitimate and binding claim upon it. Redeem. To buy back (a thing formerly possessed); to make payment for (a thing held or claimed by another), To free (mortgaged property), to recover (a person or thing put in pledge), by payment of the amount due, or by fulfilling some obligation. To ransom, liberate, free (a person) from bondage, captivity, or punishment; to save (one’s life) by paying a ransom. We were prisoners of Satan (the author of death), in bondage to the self-program of sin, destined to die and be lost forever, but Jesus took the penalty of the wages of sin for us and purchased God’s heavenly pardon for us. We deserved to die, but Jesus didn’t. Jesus fulfilled the Law of God and He deserved to live forever. We were under the curse of Satan, but Jesus wasn’t. We were born Satan’s spiritual nature, but Jesus walked in God’s divine nature. Jesus was born of the virgin Mary by the supernatural quickening power of God. Jesus who was innocent of sin, who had the Law of God in His heart and fulfilled the law on our behalf, died upon the cross in our place because He loved us. Now through faith in Jesus and His blood covenant with us, we can live forever by Him. (John 6:57) The Justice of God has been satisfied, God’s mercy has been purchased for us and the blessing of God’s covenant of eternal life through Jesus Christ now belongs unto us.
3. Some Examples of Our Redeemer and His Redemption
God uses natural things to reveal spiritual things. (2 Corinthians 4:18,1 Corinthians 1;27-28) All through the Old Testament, God orchestrated historical events (as divine pictures for our minds) that demonstrated how the coming redeemer would come to earth, fulfill the Law of God on our behalf and accomplish redemption for us. The writings of the New Testament explain how Jesus fulfilled all the promises, prophecies and historical demonstrations in the Old Testament. Throughout the whole Bible, God uses natural things to reveal spiritual things. The following examples are some of the historical Old Testament pictures of our redeemer and His redemption for us. Some of the greatest demonstrations of our redemption in the Old Testament were the Passover Lamb and the sacrifices in the tabernacle. They all point us to Jesus who became our substitute and accomplished redemption for us upon the cross.
A. God redeemed Israel out of Egypt by buying them back from their masters through plagues and death and confiscation of their wealth by His mighty arm. (Exodus 6:6, 15:13, Deuteronomy 7:8 9:26, 13:5, 15:15, 21:8; 24:18, 2 Samuel 7:23, 1 Chronicles 17:21, Nehemiah 1:10, Psalms 74:2, 77:15, 106:10, 107:2, 111:9, Isaiah 63:9, Hosea 7:13, Micah 6:4)
B. All firstborns, whether they were humans or animals, belonged unto God, but the asses were redeemed by lambs. (Exodus 13:12-16, Numbers 18:15-17)
1. Asses were unclean, since God did not like them, yet all firstborn males were His.
2. Can you imagine the profanity of offering an ass as a sacrifice on the altar of God?
3. You had two choices when a male ass was born – break its neck or offer a lamb.
4. A lamb was acceptable to God and could be offered to God on an altar.
5. Grasp the illustration of redemption: you are the ass, unclean and unacceptable to God, so He killed His Son as the Lamb of God to redeem you from breaking your neck.
C. Levites redeemed Israel’s firstborn, except 273 extra by five shekels (Numbers 3:39-51)
1. After Egypt, all firstborn males were the Lord’s, either in sacrifice or redeemed.
2. The firstborn males older than a month of all Israel were a total of 22,273 firstborn.
3. The firstborn males older than a month of the tribe of Levi were a total of 22,000.
4. God accepted the males of Levi as the redemption for the males of the other tribes.
5. The 273 males of the tribes that outnumbered Levi were redeemed for five shekels.
D. There are many other examples of redemption under the Law of God given through Moses.
1. Redemption of land bought it back from buyer. (Leviticus 25:23-28 Ruth 4:3-10 Jeremiah 32:7-8)
2. Redemption of indentured servants in Israel meant to buy them back. (Leviticus 25:47-55)
3. God gave values to redeem persons. (Leviticus 27:1-8, Nehemiah 5:5-8) beasts (Leviticus 27:9-13) houses (Leviticus 27:14-15, 25:29-34) fields (Leviticus 27:16-25) sundry (Leviticus 27:26-34)

H. David also knew God as redeemer, able to deliver from him from evil. (2 Samuel 4:9, 1 Kings 1:29, Psalm 19:14, 25:22, 26:11, 31:5 34:22, 44:26, 29:18, 71:23, 72:14, 78:35, 103:4, 136:24)
I. God was Israel’s redeemer, both in delivering His people from Babylon and in sending Christ to redeem all believers. (Nehemiah 1:10, Psalm 107:2, Isaiah 1:27, 35:9, 41:14, 43:1,14, 44:6,22-24, 47:4, 48:17,20, 49:7,26, 50:2, 51:11, 52:3,9, 54:5-8, 59:20, 60:16, 62:12, 63:4,16, Jeremiah 15:21, 31:11, 50:34, Lamentations 3:58, Micah 4:10, Zechariah 10:8)
J. God is a redeemer for His ability to deliver the fatherless from oppressors. (Proverbs 23:11)
These examples and many more throughout the Bible, teach and demonstrate how God would make provision for all mankind through His only Son Jesus Christ. As we look at these historical examples in the Old Testament, we see what Christ is going to accomplish for us through His death, burial and resurrection. In the New Testament we are taught how Christ historically fulfilled the promises, the prophecies, the blood covenants and examples of the Old Testament. This is how we understand the Bible and are able to see our spiritual needs and God’s provision for us through Christ Jesus who gave His life as a ransom for us.
K. Redeeming time, which is to recover or increase that scarce resource by giving up things that foolishly consume time and give time to God. (Ephesians 5:16, Colossians 4:5)
4. We Are In Need of Eternal Redemption
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. (Hebrews 2:14-15) For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many. 3. Hosea knew about this redemption and wrote of it regarding the grave. (Hosea 13:14)
4. Redemption is the price that Jesus paid and Salvation is the gift Jesus Gave. Without understanding His redemption, we can’t properly walk in His Salvation.
5. Redemption is us in Christ and Salvation is Christ in us.
9. The Purchase of Our Redemption
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. (Hebrews 9:12)
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Corinthians 6:20 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men. (1 Corinthians 7:23)
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which He hath purchased with His own blood. (Acts 20:28)
A. God bought us, so we are His property for pleasure and praise. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20, 7:23)
B. God purchased us with His own blood, so we are His by a great price. (Acts 20:28)
C. The ransom of souls is precious because the ransom amount was Christ’s life and His precious blood. (Matthew 20:28)
10. The Results of Our Redemption
Having, therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which He hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, His flesh; And having a high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. (Hebrews 10:19-22)
Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave Him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever. (1 Peter 1:18-23)
A. If you were redeemed from death by money, you would greatly honor your redeemer.
B. You were bought with a price; you are not your own; so glorify God. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
C. It is good to consider we are twice His – He made us, and He bought (redeemed) us.
D. Break forth into praise as they do in heaven for Christ’s redemption. (Revelation 5:9, 14:3-4)
E. Since our redemption was costly far beyond natural things, we surely owe our Heavenly Father.
1. What Return on investment do you give God? He invested His Son’s blood on your behalf!
2. What manner of love the Father has bestowed on us … to adopt as His own sons! (1 John 3:1-2)
Conclusion:
No religion created by man or angel, and no new world order can change man’s spiritual nature or accomplish the perfect justice of the living God who dwells in Heaven. No philosophy or religious traditions of men can bring the human to the place where he is fit for Heaven or can merit Heaven. Only God can provide the miracle that makes us a new creature that is right with God and fit for Heaven. God has defeated Satan’s dominion in the universe and his powers of death over man. The whole universe is waiting for the great correction when everything will be brought back under the dominion of the living God. (Colossians 2:15, Ephesians 6:12, John 16:33)
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? (1 Corinthians 15:55)
And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation. (Revelation 5:9)
1. Redemption foe every soul has already been paid for by Christ and accepted by God. Condemnation has been lifted from those that are in the beloved. (Ephesians 1:3-6) We don’t deserve redemption and we can’t earn redemption through good works. Redemption only comes through the finished work of Jesus Christ on our behalf. Redemption becomes real the moment we receive Christ in our hearts.
2. You can trust in God’s mercy and walk in fellowship with God by faith knowing redemption was paid for you. (Matthew 7:21-23, Mark 16:15-16, Romans 8:1-9 1 Timothy 6:17-19, Hebrews 5:9, 2 Peter 1:5-11, 1 John 5:18-19)
3. Is your conscience so moved by His blood redemption that you will serve Him. (Hebrews 9:14, 2 Peter 1:8-9)
4. Are you thankful God took matters into His own hands to ransom you from death. (Hosea 13:14)
5. Are you thankful to Jesus for willingly becoming our Ransom and are you committed to living by Him and in service to Him. (2 Corinthians 5:14-15)
What is the difference between Redemption and Salvation? Redemption is the price Jesus is paid and Salvation is the gift Jesus gave. Everything that you inherited from Adam, your sin nature, your diseases, your death, your eternal destiny of punishment in Hell, Jesus took for you and bore away from you. Everything that belonged to Jesus became your inheritance through faith in His redemption that He provided for you because he loves you!
